La Chasse aux Papillons

la chasse aux papillions edgy
Graphic photo of cut crystal bottle with pink label running up one of the five sides.

White spring flowers and more white flowers and jasmine and some white citrus-y flowers and some white summer flowers and tuberose.

Very high quality ingredients, and pretty, but I was the kid who ate her Crayolas because I wanted to taste the colors, y’know?

Lasts half an inch above the skin for an hour, and on cotton until laundry day.

Here’s another pretty butterfly from the king of K-Pop.

Jimmy Choo L’eau

Ballet pink cut glass Jimmy Choo mini bottle in prism light, casting sunburst shadows.

Red Zinger herbal tea–

Sparkly hibiscus and rosy fruit with an earthy finish–a great summer splash for a young woman.
(Or an older one who is nostalgic for 1970’s jello salad, quiche and carrot cake.) (Me.)

A raspy Clash cover of another Jimmy.

Cheshire Cat

Cheshire catThis one is from Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab’s Mad Tea Party collection, and it’s rather nice.

The grapefruit opens more floral than fruit, especially with the lavender, then chamomile makes it sweet. The musk is subtle, paired with the currants, and soft, like the dusty bloom on dark berries.

I’d love it in a bath oil.

The Pogues aren’t from anywhere near Cheshire, but this is great.

Breath of God

breath of god edgy
LUSH turquoise soap shingle and a printed photo of the bottle with the original label–rainbow curlicues reminiscent of Japanese woodcuts.

This one smells oddly like…
artisanal breakfast?

Toast that’s had a burnt crust scraped off, peppery citrus grilled on a cedar plank, melon on the side.

It’s like a savory gourmand–but it works, in a honeymoon morning, cabin-in-the-woods kind of way.

Indigo Love

Kimberly New York’s frosted square bottle with silver cap, without the cute dandelion label (Bluegrass humidity makes goo of adhesive) and clementines.

Remember when you were little and would pinch the end of a honeysuckle bloom to taste that drop of ambrosia?
This stuff opens with a LOVELY squeeze of the sweetest orange, then pure flower nectar blooms a few inches off the wrist.
Doesn’t last long–I’d go fast through a bottle reapplying, especially since it feels so silky on the skin.

11/5/20
I did get a bottle, (happy birthday to me!) and I am definitely going through it quickly–this is my favorite self-care potion at the moment.
The bright citrus at the opening is as refreshing as any Atelier Cologne, but the sweet floral dry down is lotion soft, and so pretty and addictive.

Highly recommended.
Check out the Kimberly New York website here. I got great customer service.

Auka Dixon’s group Quartette Indigo is awesome.

Rentless

rentless edge
Large Rentless bottle and solid perfume pot on botanical illustration of labdanum (rock rose.)

So Lolita Lempicka ran off and joined a coven, and came back organic and amazing.

Sugary licorice and lemonade top notes that last for hours, resin and burnt caramel all night long.
Bonfire dancing, bohemian patchouli flirting and aniseed incantations at midnight. Wakes in the morning still smelling of fairy sin on the skin.

Brash, pansexual and gorgeous.

The solid is tamed down–the gateway drug version–more secretive, the sweetness hiding in leather. I love it no less.

This song.

All Good Things

all good things edgesThe soap shingle might not be the best way to test, but it’s fun. I get honey tempered with burnt cedar in the suds, and sweet resinous spice on the rinse.

I like the chocolate licorice accord, though any Lolita Lempicka Noir does it better.
Not for me, but pleasant enough to sit next to on a long bus ride.

All Good Things was the super-group everybody had heard but never heard of–they did epic rock studio work for video game soundtracks and TV shows–until their fans tracked them down and said give us albums. So they did.
